A breath of Italy in the middle of Steinfurt: the Bagno
The Münster Land is lucky to have a very special cultural gem: the Steinfurt Bagno, former pleasure garden of the Count of Bentheim-Steinfurt. Right next to the castle, this Imperial Count created an exotic garden landscape which included a Chinese palace, a Greek temple, small fountains and terraced cascades. In 1774 the Count ordered the construction of a concert hall for his court orchestra. Based on the "Grand Trianon" castle gallery in Versailles, the "Grande Galerie pour les Concerts" boasts ornate stucco work in the Louis XVI style, as well as grotto-like wall niches, mirrored walls and ceiling mirrors.
After extensive restoration and reconstruction work, the concert hall's doors opened again in spring 1997, heralding a series of splendid musical performances. Of course, the interior of the concert hall can be viewed even when there are no concerts.
