The District Teaching Garden "Kreislehrgarten"

Quite apart from its conservation areas and green spaces, Steinfurt has something rather special to offer those interested in gardens and nature: the district teaching garden in Burgsteinfurt, which covers an area of 30,000 sq.m. The garden was established as far back as 1914, and the intervening years have seen the development of an impressive array of different model gardens. Rock gardens, herb gardens and peasant gardens - these will surely be the high points for any plant enthusiast. Glowing beds full of roses, herbaceous perennials and sunflowers are presented with a slight air of wilderness: an ideal opportunity to get to know and love the wonders of horticulture. Visitors will find tips and suggestions for maintaining and designing their own gardens, and there are courses for those who would like to become experts in environmentally-friendly gardening. Over 300 old and new kinds of fruit are tested here to assess their suitability for the Münster region. And, of course, you can simply decide to sit back and enjoy the glorious colours ... regardless of the season!
